Recently, the very kind Dean Martinis reposted some of my work, saying the style reminded them of Tex Avery. Being compared to the legendary cartoonist/animator/director is incredibly flattering, but it also reminded me of something from my childhood I haven’t thought about in years.

When I was a little girl, I was always rifling through my mother’s art books in search of illustrations to copy. My all-time favorite, and the one I must have drawn a thousand times, was a model sheet for Tex Avery’s Red Hot Riding Hood. I have no idea where that book is now, but through the magic of Google, I found those exact pages I used to draw from on this site:

I’m delighted to be re-introduced to Tex Avery’s magnificent illustrations and his pin-up girl that started my fascination with this genre decades ago.

In lieu of new work, please enjoy this piece by one of my favorite artists, Erich Sokol. I was introduced to him when I picked up Playboy: The Cartoons a few years back and have been in awe of his style and wit ever since.

This past Christmas, I received an Effie’s Heart Claudia Coat. To call this piece an instant wardrobe staple would be putting it mildly… I cannot stop wearing it!

This past Christmas, I received an Effie’s Heart Claudia Coat. To call this piece an instant wardrobe staple would be putting it mildly… I cannot stop wearing it!

The soft, sweatshirt-like material has been keeping me plenty cozy in the freezing January temperatures. I love how the oversized hood not only blocks the wind from my face, but also helps me disappear into my own quiet space when taking any kind of public transportation. I often feel unglamorous and shapeless in heavy winter clothing. However, the cinched-in waist and full skirt on this ’50s inspired coat allows for both function and femininity (my favorite combination).

While I probably won’t enjoy trudging through the ice and snow in the coming months, at least I’ll stay as comfortable, warm, and girly as possible.

Seeing as I live about 1,700 miles away, I can never help out much with party prep, so my contribution is always the invitation illustration.

While doing a little therapeutic online shopping tonight, I noticed that Trashy Diva has restocked my beloved Jenny Dress (as well as several other beautiful new knit designs). Along with pin curls, a jeweled brooch, and heels, I’m planning to make this my go-to holiday dress this season.

Perhaps ordering the Bordeaux style will help speed up my convalescence…
